Why You Need a Vintage Rug in Your Life + An Amazing Online to Shop to Find One

First, let me start by saying this post is the next layer of our living room update. I am beyond excited to share our vintage rug that is the newest piece to the design puzzle, why you need a vintage rug in your home, and my favorite online shop to find one.

I began the search for a new area rug a few months ago, and browsed through more websites than I will ever admit looking for one that would work in our space. Having a long narrow living room and wall to wall carpet in a cool medium-dark grey creates an instant challenge. First, it eliminates all 9’x7’ rugs (too small) and 8’x10’ (too wide) and has to compliment the color of the carpet underneath.

After searching ALL the websites, I quickly realized the unique sizes of vintage rugs was going to be a much better fit, and it was going to add the much-needed character our living room was lacking.

An Instant Dose of Character

Vintage pieces are what make a room, and the character cannot be matched by shopping new.  Every single room in our home has something vintage in it, and that is the one element our living room was missing. The beauty is in the muted colors and gentle wear. All you have to do is pair a vintage rug with a few modern pieces for an instant collected look.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Shopping vintage rugs gives new life to older pieces and is an excellent way to help care for our environment. This is my top favorite reason for advocating vintage and is a complete feel-good factor.

Unique Sizes

Vintage rugs are anything but standard sizes. For our living room, anything wider than 7 feet is way too large. We found a rug that was 6" 5"  x10'6," which gives us the extra length and more narrow width. Vintage rugs are also great for layering, which is why it works so well over our carpet. You can always put a larger sisal or jute rug underneath and place a smaller vintage rug on top. If we didn't have wall to wall carpet, this is a look I would definitely try.

Reversible

Yep, you read that right! Many vintage rugs are reversible. The pattern is on the back as well, it will look more muted but is equally as beautiful.
